Numerology Calculator

Your core numbers from your name and date of birth.

How numerology numbers are calculated

Numerology reduces names and dates to single digits (1–9) plus the “master numbers” 11, 22 and 33. Each of your core numbers looks at a different part of you:

  • Life Path — from your full date of birth. The headline number, describing your journey and natural tendencies.
  • Destiny / Expression — from all the letters of your full name. What you are here to build.
  • Soul Urge — from the vowels in your name. Your inner desires and motivation.
  • Personality — from the consonants. How others tend to see you.
  • Birthday — from the day of the month you were born. A specific gift you carry.

Pythagorean vs Chaldean

The two systems use different letter charts. Pythagorean assigns 1–9 to the alphabet in order. Chaldean — the older system common in Indian numerology — assigns 1–8 based on ancient sound values and never gives a letter the number 9. Switch systems above to compare. To reduce any number by hand, add its digits until one digit remains (keeping 11, 22 and 33).

Numerology is a belief system offered here for reflection and entertainment, not scientific or predictive fact.

How the numbers are derived

Numerology reduces dates and names to a single digit by repeated summing, a process called digital rooting. The rules are fixed, so the arithmetic is reproducible even though the interpretation is not.

Life Path for 14 November 1991:

1 + 4 = 5  ·  1 + 1 = 2  ·  1 + 9 + 9 + 1 = 20 → 2

5 + 2 + 2 = 9 → Life Path 9

Name-based numbers use a letter-to-number chart. The Expression (or Destiny) number sums every letter of the full birth name; the Soul Urge sums only the vowels; the Personality number sums only the consonants.

Master numbers

11, 22 and 33 are conventionally left unreduced when they appear as a total. Practitioners treat them as intensified forms of 2, 4 and 6 — 11 as intuition, 22 as the “master builder”, 33 as the teacher. Some traditions only recognise them in the Life Path position.

A note on what this is

Numerology is a symbolic tradition with roots in Pythagorean thought, not a science. There is no evidence that birth dates or name spellings predict personality or events, and the descriptions above are broad enough to feel apt for almost anyone — a well-documented effect. Treat the output as a prompt for reflection or entertainment, and never as a basis for a decision about health, money or relationships.

Numerology FAQ

What is a Life Path number?
The single digit obtained by summing all the digits of your birth date and reducing repeatedly. It is the most commonly cited number in Western numerology.
What is the difference between Pythagorean and Chaldean numerology?
Pythagorean maps the letters A to Z onto 1 to 9 in order and is the common Western method. Chaldean assigns values 1 to 8 based on sound, reserves 9, and uses the name you are known by.
What are master numbers?
The totals 11, 22 and 33, which are traditionally left unreduced and read as intensified forms of 2, 4 and 6.
Which name should I use for a name number?
Most Western practitioners use the full name as it appears on your birth certificate for the Expression number, and the name you currently use for readings about present circumstances.
Is numerology scientific?
No. It is a symbolic tradition with no evidential basis for predicting personality or events. Treat the results as reflection or entertainment.
What is the Soul Urge number?
The total of the vowels in your full name, said to describe inner motivation, as distinct from the consonants which give the Personality number.
